FINDING COURSE INFORMATION

In CAS, there is an area called Course Descriptions . In course descriptions, users can find information such as Title, Hours, Course Abbreviation and terms available. Some institutions may also choose to enter additional memos, which could include a syllabus, course description, and link to the program’s web site or prerequisite courses.

VIEWING COURSE EQUIVALENCIES

The Course Equivalency Guide (CEG)  is a component of CAS that displays course equivalencies determined by the school that will be receiving the credit. There are three steps to finding course equivalencies within the Course Equivancy Guide.

STEP ONE

The first step requires that you select the school you will want to have the credit transfer to. Schools shown as a selection in the Step One drop-down box are those participating in CAS with transfer information available. If the school you want to transfer credit to is not listed in Step One, they currently do not have transfer information listed in CAS, and you will want to contact the school directly.

STEP TWO

The Second Step Requires that you chooose the method you would like to use to look up the equivalency. One method is the "Search by Course" method. This is used if you already know the course at your home instituion that you would like to take at another institituion. The other method that you can choose in Step Two is the "Browse by School" method. The method allows you to look at all the courses that the school you selected in Step One has transfer information for..

STEP THREE

If you chose the Search by Course method, simply type the course from the school that was selected in Step One into the text boxes. The first box requires the department prefix or course prefix. A link to a list of abbreviations may be provided to you by the school next to this text box. The second box requires the course number. The third box is a drop-down box that will allow you to select states that you would like information returned for. If the student is only willing to take courses within the same state as his or her home institition, you can select this here to limit your search. This will return all of the other schools on CAS that have an equivalent course.

If you chose the Browse by School method, you can choose the school where the courses will be coming from, and click the "See Equivalencies" button. A new screen will appear showing both schools. Using this method, you can search by the department at either school. Up to three schools can also be selected by holding down the Ctrl button on your keyboard while clicking on up to three institutions from the list. The school you choose in Step One may also provide additional explanation of the equivalency by providing a link to a Glossary at the bottom of the page.
