Student Guide DETERMINING DEGREE REQUIREMENTS Institutions use a degree audit system to create a report for requirements of a finishing a degree. The degree audit report provides information about the requirements for the degree, such as courses to take, number of courses or hours, and GPA requirements. In CAS, the Academic Programs has a degree audit report for each program an institution wants to advertise. RUNNING A PERSONALIZED REPORT Two areas help in determining which courses will transfer and apply in certain programs: Your Courses and Planning Guides. Your Courses enables users to store the coursework to be evaluated, and Planning Guides actually creates a personalized report for the user for the selected program. This report will also include courses entered into Your Courses for the user, and determine how they will fit and/or transfer and apply within the program. 1. Enter the coursework taken and currently registered in the Your Courses area. 2. Request a Planning Guide. The Planning Guide will take the courses you have entered into Your Courses and send it to be processed through the requirements of the program. It will find the equivalent at the receiving institution, and apply it where it can within those requirements. There are two different types of Planning Guides One is a Regular Planning Guide that processes the courses and places them in the degree program where they apply. Requesting a Planning Guide enables students to determine the coursework required of a student for a particular degree at any participating institution. The second is a Cross--Reference Planning Guide, which does the same as a Regular Planning Guide in addition to including the transferable course from the institution selected for Cross-Reference. A Cross-Reference Planning Guide, for those schools using DARS as their degree audit system, is helpful in determining the courses that can be taken at the sending institution that are applicable toward the degree program at the receiving institution. To Request a Planning Guide, select the Planning Guide button from the CAS menu, and then Request Planning Guide in the center of the screen. Follow the instructions to selecting the intended program. Cross- Reference PLANNING GUIDE
